Colorado Motorcycling/Hiking Tour 2014

After some 19 months in the flatlands of Florida, Ombra and I were 'jonesing' for the mountains.  Friends Kathy and Michael were there to solve our problem by inviting us to come and visit them in the Wet Mountain Valley of Colorado, where their beautiful home stands 9,000 feet high up on a hillside.  So we booked a 1400 Kawasaki Concourse from Colorado Tourbike Rentals, pulled our gear together and jumped on a plane bound for Denver...  After 10 days, 1110 miles (1800 kms) later, we had crossed three 12,000+ ft (3600+ m) passes, traversed high plains, smelled pine forests and wild flowers, and experienced some amazing rides and sights!  We also managed three hikes, one of which was over 12,500 ft!  Just a wonderfully beautiful holiday that will not be soon forgotten...

My turn...
Back on the move at the crack of dawn...
Coffee break in Walsenburg
Classic cowboy towns...
The Dykes of Cuchara
Another view of the dykes...
Over the pass and on to the Dunes... Big sky country!
An odd site... Dunes National Park
The end of a stream from the mountains is the front edge of the dunes...
It looks beautiful, but the sand is so hot it would be impossible to stand on it barefoot.

Running down the dunes...
Boarding down the dunes...
Yikes that sand it hot!
Time for a selfie!

Really a hard to compare holiday. Beautiful pictures! And no compromises about the bike choice...!

Yes, Valter, it's true that one can't/shouldn't compare...  Every long ride is a great experience.  And you are right about the choice of bikes, this Kawasaki was a real runner!
