Not for the faint of heart...

Walking along a sidewalk in downtown Buenos Aires on the first night of a full 10-day ICANN conference, I didn't see the open hole next to the galvanized steel plate and stepped right into it!  If not for being physically fit and diligent about supplementing my diet with the full range of vitamin and minerals, this accident would have undoubtedly been a broken leg... Really dodged a bullet this time  -  so I am extremely thankful for what I ended up with this Thanksgiving Weekend...

Even with this injury now two weeks old, I am still having trouble getting to sleep and staying that way the whole night through because the throbbing dull pain of my body regenerating itself and knitting the nerve endings back together are all-consuming...  However, when I look at the wounds themselves today versus what they looked like 14 days ago I am pleased to see how well and quickly they are healing.  But it is the strained nerves and the impact of my full weight of my shin bone hitting the edge of the steel plate that is the source of my discomfort.

All of this to say that I am frustrated that I have not been able to workout at all - even doing pushups or sit ups - and my body is feeling the sluggishness that comes with that.  I HAVE tried to avoid pain medication as much as possible and at least that is having a more positive affect on my body.

So I'll continue to keep my left leg irrigated regularly with hydrogen peroxide to keep the germs and bacteria out; medicated with Neosporin; ice regimens 2-3 times per day; DMSO massages to reduce the inflammation and elevated whenever possible...  No running, rollerblading or karate for at least another week, but by then I should be able to get back in the saddle!

For that I am especially thankful!

Ron,

I was right beside you when this happened.  Your readers should realize that this happened in the dark of night.

It is scary how easily we can be side-lined with injuries like this.

i hope you heal fast.

Ron,

I am glad it was not worse and you are healing well at home.  Be well my friend and let you leg heal completely!

I appreciate your comments, gents. And to Tom's post, indeed, it happened in a heart beat.  Which, from a karate POV deepens my understanding of 'be aware of my surroundings'! Had there not been a Farmacia right there, this would have been a lot uglier than it turned out.  And after cleaning the wound and heading off to join you and the rest of our dinner party, I well recall your coming back to check on me at the same time I arrived at the restaurant.  Thanks for that, Tom.  I really appreciate it.

Oh my God, I only just read this now. Incredible how fast this healed so well. Are you sure you're not superman? Vitamines and supplements hè? Maybe I should try those too! Glad to read you keep being ever so positive, no matter what happens; that's probably part of the quick healing too. Big Hugs from Brussels with lots of healthy winter sun to heal totally very soon XXX
